Hi Todd, nice to have you back. Is there any chance you will be posting your missing posts?

I could really use your post from July 7th (2006) entitled which talked about creating a VSTO document and integrating with MOSS 2007.

I only caught it on a google cached page, and I can't download the application you created (www.sharepointblogs.com/.../entry8175.aspx) or visualize any images.

Thanks for your help and your work.

Cheers

Todd - Excellent information! Thanks for compiling it for everyone--it will save a lot of people a lot of time.

I would like to mention one caveat. Although when you create a new Publishing Portal, all new sub sites are of type "Publishing Portal with Workflow", by default. This can be changed to allow most any template in the "Page layouts and Site Template Settings."

I have a question about sharepoint Services 3.0. I installed one of the Microsoft Templates. So far it went fine, however I want it to be set so anonymous users can view the site. I did set anonymous access for site in the Administration Site. I also set anonymous access on the Top Level site. But when I created a sub site off the main site using Application Templates, I was able to set anonymous access it does not work. Is this normal? Or am I doing something wrong?

Now with .NetFrameWork 2.0 developing connectable web parts has become much simpler. I need not override 8-9 methods as it was in WSS 2.0. I just need to implement the IWebPart field interface and override 3-4 methods each containing 2-3 lines. Moreover in WSS 2.0 if I had to develop a CellProvider and a FilterProvider it was a nightmare where as in this case its much simpler.

This looks like a great solution- nice work!

Being new to SharePoint, though, I wonder if anybody could be so kind as to provide a little bit more guidance on deploying the web part.  I realize that's fairly well-covered ground, but it seems like different downloadable web parts have different methods of installation.

So-

I copy your code to a text file and save it as????

Create a dwp file?  (How???)

Something about strong name encrpytion code?  STSadmin?

I hate asking so many questions, but I want to have a good idea of exactly what I am asking our administrator to do before I ask them to do it.

Thanks,

Thanks for this article,

helped me work out how to programmatically generate my custom sites. Important to note that in the template section you need to add 'templatefilename.stp' instead of the 'STS#0' if its a custom template.

Thilakka, Microsoft outlook can do this - you create a resource and you can add it to meetings and it is recurseively rebooked isn't it? perhaps you could tap into that somehow.

Thanks,

Hi

Thanks for a nice article. Just one question: supposing i have a VSTO Document Template in WSS secured by Forms Authentication, and the logged-in user opens the document template in word, will the sharepoint user credentials get passed on to word?

And how to get the User details, so that we can do some user role specific action-pane stuff like say display or lock word sections for some user roles.

Kind Regards

I was trying to create a template file which is a Microsoft Excel 2003 document and created a directory named "Forms" (thinking since it was a form that we use) and I was going to attempt to assign this form as the template for that directory.

I have found a number of issues with this:

"Form" is reserved for WSS (that's what we use).  There is no stopping from anyone creating this, but you sure aren't ever going to delete it!

You cannot create a template for a specific directory, only for the entire "Document Library" which means even those subdirectories use the same template.  (I use the term directory because of our old DOS days, and I hate the term "Folder).

You are limited to only one template in a document library, but isn't a "LIBRARY" supposed to contain many different types of information?  Since when have you gone to a library and only seen magazines but not books???  Or books but no shelves for them to be organized on?

Microsoft is really limiting business to their standards and I really wish we could "stretch our arms" or at least organize the way the company has been for the past 19 years, which I must say, seems better than conforming to Microsoft's version of business.  (Watch "Pirates of Silicon Valley")

Hi Todd Baginski,

THis article is really nice. Right now I have different requirement.

I want to add a menu item in sharepoint 2007. If you open the sharepoint home page you can see the webparts available there. If you click document library link it will take you to the respective page. There you can see list of documents under related documents. If you click any document it will show a combobox with options as view properties, edit properties, manage permissions, edit in Microsoft office word, delete, sent to option as other location, e-mail a link, create document workspace, and download a copy. Here in this send to menu I want to add another item called Fax. I want to do this in C# 2.0. Should I create web application or website for this? How to do this? Please help me.

Hi Ari,

In order for the STP to work correctly it must be installed on a MOSS 2007 Enterprise Edition server that was built from scratch with the RTM bits.  A server that was upgraded from B2TR to RTM will not work.

The STP file was created on the LITWAREDEMO VPC MS provides on their web site, so if it does not work on your environment and you are having a hard time troubleshooting it, just download the image from MS and it will work there for sure.

I hope this helps you out, thanks for coming to my session!

But actually it should be:

Otherwise fantastic, thanks very much

Actually, the inaccurate part is where the list is being created.  It should be:

Accepted practice is to put lists in a Lists folder, thus:

portal/.../CustomDocumentLibrary

instead of

portal/CustomDocumentLibrary
