Here’s a list of ways to get database data into SharePoint pages. This is all the ways I can think of but I would welcome input/ideas on ways others have used. I will discuss most of these in more detail in future posts.
1. Business Data Catalog (BDC) – Usually the one most people think of when considering how to get data into SharePoint (at least for MOSS)
2. Data Form Web Part – An updated version available since 2003 as the Data View Web Part for those who like to use SP Designer.
3. Report View Web Part – Comes with the SP Reporting Services Add-In.
4. Vendor/Application provided web parts – Many major applications have available a web part(s) built specifically for the application.
5. 3rd Party Data Web Parts – Use a generic web part that can tie into any data source and provide a number of unique display options
6. Forms Server – Use InfoPath.
7. Build-Your-Own web part – You can always get out Visual Studio!
Did I miss some?
