I found a similiar problem where my profile is store on the network server and SharePoint Designer was give the same type of message. After reading your message I decided to try copying all the files from the network location to the local hard drive and editing the ProxyAssembly.xml file replacing the network location with the local drive location. Now everthing works fine.

Thanks for steering me in the right direction, I've been fighting this for sometime with no help from anyone at Microsoft.

I am a Sharepoint newb, just 1 month into it, and without having much knowledge of it, I've had to rely blogs and forums, and this had been yet another timely solution.

I deleted the folder and my workflow loaded right up, thanks!!

Scott,

Arnold was trying to create this workflow for my company's new portal, and now I have taken over the project. I can't produce any results either, and I am following your instructions carefully. In step #9 while creating the dynamic string neither of calculated columns that Arnold and I created appear when using the "add lookup" in the fields dropdown. Current item is chosen. One collumn was created locally by through the list settings, and I created a text date column using site settings>site columns. When looking at the default view of the list, both columns return the expected date value. I think that is the beginning of the problem, none of the custom fields are recognized, any thoughts?

Hi,

This answer also helped me a lot. Except for the fact that I want to do the same, but instead of adding the date automatically, I want to add the string ("new") to a document when it is uploaded for the first time. So I thought I can do the same as you described but it did not work.

Any idea how I can manage this?

Maybe by creating a new column and give it a calculated value? Where the calculated value is something like =Text("new")?

Arnold,

I'm not quite sure without seeing your actual workflow. I would focus on the last few steps to make sure they are returning valid data, especially the FileName variable. You might try adding an email to the workflow to send you the text in the FileName variable.

If you would like you can send me a screenshot of your workflow so I can take a look.

Scott,

We've attempted to duplicate your work on "Change a Filename using a Workflow" but without success. SharePoint doesn't change the Name. The workflow will create a new name and put it into a new custom column, but Name remains inviolate. Any idea what we may be doing wrong?

I too have the same issue with Office 2007 on Vista against SharePoint 2.0 (SBS Companyweb). From a document library that is based on a Word template, I select New, which opens a blank Word document based on the template, fill-out the document, hit Save, fill-in the SharePoint custom fields we created for the library, click OK, and then the error occurs. It is random, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have saved the document to the Desktop and then manually uploaded successfully (not a very efficient workaround), but then today I was able to save the document by opening the Office menu and choosing Publish to Document Management Server. I basically got the same Save As dialog as one normally sees but this method worked.

I have a limited "fix" for this (I think). Here's my scenario:

Using Vista/Word2007/Sharepoint Services 3.0 on a Windows 2003 server.

I go to the Sharepoint site, select a document and choose "Edit in Microsoft Office Word" from the drop down menu.

The document then opens in Word. When it opens the Document Mangement panel opens (on the right for me).

Near the top of the document window panel is a row of icons. If you choose third one from the left, which looks like a document you can choose "Save Updatable Copy..." from the drop down menu.

You can then edit the document and save it. When you save it, the panel on the right will give you a notice that the document has changes and you can choose to "Update Workspace Copy". If you click on that (it looks like a hyperlink), the copy on the sharepoint site is updated. I repeated this several times and it seems to be the fix.

I think what users are trying to do is to download the sharepoint doc, then use the "save" function from the regular word menu, rather than using the document managment panel.

I hope this works for others.

having the same problem...the workaround we used was to stop the webclient service. we would like to know why this is happening though and we don't feel stopping the webclient service is the best solution. saving locally will probably work as well...but again, not a great solution. let me know if anyone finds a real solution.

The above error Message! I see now (In VS 2005).

I can see my workflow proj in the sharepoint server (eg. mytest workflow within the workflow setting). Then I choice workflow error message occues that is (the form has been closed. )

When I build my proj the following error message appears

The XSN can not be used on server. (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\Template\Features\NOTincludeInfoFields\Login.xsn)

SO how should do for these case. Pls advice to me
