Experiencing exact same issue.

Upgrading a DC from 2000 to 2003 R2. Problem presented itself after upgrade but before R2 and is still broken after R2 and SP2.

Going to try suggested fixes and post back

Start by running the Terminal Services Configuration tool.

Click on the Connections "folder"

Right click the RDP-TCP connection and select properties

General Tab, Tick the "Use Standard windows logon interface", click ok.

Its all should be ok and you can connect to the server again using RDP.

Great blog...I agree that database size is limited by SLA and the organizations ability to support large databases. A questions I ask clients is "Whats your largest SQl database today and how long does it take to backup/restore?" This gives me a sense of their operations maturity. I also like your approach to configuring the disks and servers, will support lots of IOs.

Unfortunately, I haven't pinpointed which update causes the problem. Frankly there are so many hotfixes that come through on a regular basis it would be pretty painful to weed through them and figure it out.
