Open in Explorer View Issue

I love the option "Open in Explorer View", however something weird happens on occasion.  A user may click this option and it will not open the folder at all.  I just created a bunch of document libraries and I can open the files in "Explorer View" as the Site Collection Administrator, but the anyone with full control and below can not.  For some weird reason we do not have this issue with every document library.  I would like to know if anyone else has this issue and what they have done to fix it.  I have tried google, but alas for this problem I find myself in the dark.

We have experienced this in our organization, too.  It is related to the folder depth.  We only find this problem occurring when a user attempts to "Open with Windows Explorer" from more than two folders beneath a Document Library.  Unfortunately, I cannot explain why this would be the case, but at least it seems to be consistent and repeatable.

One of the document libraries we are having issues with has no folders.  I wish that I could find a pattern, but I am finding no consistency.

You will find a useful whitepaper on fixing Explorer View if you Google "Understanding and Troubleshooting SharePoint Explorer View" (with the quotation marks).

Unfortunately the article was not helpful for our situation.  We really have no pattern that we can find.  It happens at random and this is off the base document library template on some with folders and some without folders.  We tried at least a dozen different scenarios and could find no isolated reason for this problem to occur.

Hello,

I am experiencing the same behaviour.

The first level of a document library cannot be opened with Windows Explorer, but once I go into a folder it works fine.

I already looked at the post that Nadeem proposed but it didn't solved the issue.

Hi

A work around for this is to switch to explorer view in the library level itself . Then navigate thro the sub folders

Windows Client Service needs to be active in that particular client machine. To know more on the protocol used for explorer view , please refer to the white paper from MicroSoft
