Key Sharepoint Business Roles

I was searching in google the past few days looking for Key Business Roles in Sharepoint.  For example, do you need developers, admins, project managers, etc...  What defines the responsibilities of these people?  I started writing on a wiki on my companies Sharepoint Site and I figured out these people are at least needed:

  • Project Manager
  • Administrator
  • Designer
  • Developer
  • Support/Training
  • Architect

I am going to work on role definitions in the next few days and post them.  I would love to hear your comments and maybe some suggestions or changes in these Business Roles for Sharepoint.

I complain about project managers a lot, does that count?

I kinda expunge on what I expect mostly as a developer.

I agree with most of your other points as well, however I think you should add architect to the list :)

Buahaha architect is added to the list...*Must Stop Playing WoW*

Pms can be awesome or really scary.  I think I got lucky with my current PM, but man in my consulting days these past few years some of the people I have dealt with I wondered where they came from.  I have considered suggesting they start taking Dale Carnegie classes to work on there people skills.

:) I just finished up with my trial account on WoW, I am scared that my life will end if I actually start playing more frequently, so I think I have to quit!

As this topic hits home for me in my current project, I thought about this post a little more last night. I also think a crucial role depending on the project is a business analyst that essentially can play the role of a tester as well, since they are often responsible for translating software requirements most effectively in an arbitrary project. I think this is depending pretty heavily on the amount of development that is being proposed for the SharePoint instance on the relative number of BA's / testers that are staffing, but I think it is nonetheless important.

Love your blog :)

I need to put out a public service announcements for anyone even getting 100 ft away from a World of Warcraft Box.  I will say QUIT while you still can.  Never look back.  The game is like an instant addiction.

I am trying in the upcoming months to supplement posting blog entries and getting more involved in the Sharepoint Community.  I am hoping to find more speaking opportunities, because I have relatively no experience (aside from Dale Carnegie).  I e-mailed the Sharepoint Connections people and they gave me a nice long list of stuff they would like there speakers to have.  I guess I'll put my goal as eventually getting to be a Sharepoint Connections speaker.  We'll pretend that if I get there it's equivalent to level 70.  Then maybe I can slowly ween myself off of WoW.
