there is a good article on db capacity planning on: technet.microsoft.com/.../cc262574.aspx

Still it does not answer our question on the TempDB size. I'm currently moving my SharePoint environment to a new farm, after that I will be able to measure the exact size of the TempDB in relation to the crawled content.

To answer some of your question, my sitecollection is now about 40gb, consisting of 3 layers of subsites (500x10x10). Most of the size is generated by te subsites, they account for ~1mb each.

We seem to have the same problem with our SharePoint app. After migrating our old wiki articles into the new one and activating the crawling, the application crashed several times because of a failure connecting to the configuration database.

And it appeared that the full tempDB partition on the used SQL server was responsible.

In between, the partition was granted some more free space and it went on working.

As you noted, the crawl on this server was running indefinately and i tried to stop the search service which resulted in a service state "stopping" but without any results.

I will try to follow your advices and turn off the crawling in the way you stated, but can you give me any advice how big the available space for the TempDB has to be, relative to the content db's size? Are there any sizing documents available? How big is this "extremely large" sitecollection of yours?

As we are planning to move our companies documents into a sharepoint document library, we apparently need to consider the indexing load and tempdb size as well :S

Thank you for your help in advance

I can imagine why you would want this. The SPContentType object itself has no events attached, so you should monitor for changes yourself.

It might be possible to monitor with a scheduled task and check the Version property. Although I can not guarantee the version is really updated by SharePoint. The SDK calls the property: "Reserved for future use"

this should be possible;

Altough, if you are going to get all of them of would seem more logical to start of with the Configuration exams before you do the Dev exams.

I started with Configuring MOSS and now I'm preparing for the Configuring WSS. This seems unlogical because WSS is the foundry underneath MOSS, but for the exams it is no problem. The MOSS exam will only focus on the additional aspects of MOSS.

good luck!

Have one question: Is there any sequence you should get your SharePoint exams?

For instance: first WSS then MOSS... and first configuration, then development (I'm a .NET developer with configuration ambitions and with little SP development knowledge)

Our situation is not as unusual as yours. We are using content deployment for a site collection containing a list (at the collection root) with multiple content types that then gets displayed in various pages (subsite) using the List View part.

The List View web part fails to retain toolbar and view settings in the content deployment (export/import) process.

Looks like a bug to me.
