MS SPC 2008 - Todd Baginski's Session - Creating Solutions with the Business Data Catalog

This file contains the SharePoint Site Template Package that contains the site I used to present my Creating Solutions with the Business Data Catalog session at the Microsoft SharePoint Conference in Seattle, in March of 2008.  All the code and resources I showed in my demo (with the exception of the Excel Services KPIs in the Report Center) as well as step by step instructions to set it up in your own environment are included in the SharePoint site.

I hope this comes in handy for you and saves you lots of time!

Todd, I installed the .stp and created a site with it but get the error message - The template you have chosen is invalid or cannot be found. Since I can get to bdc/_layouts/settings I attempted drop the page into web part maintenance mode by adding ?contents=1 to the URL (bdc/default.aspx?contents=1) but then received an error - The requested page could not be found or loaded. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Nicole, In order for the STP to work correctly it must be installed on a MOSS 2007 Enterprise Edition server that was built from scratch with the RTM bits. A server that was upgraded from B2TR to RTM will not work and throws the error you are encountering - I found this out first hand. The STP file was created on the LITWAREDEMO VPC MS provides on their web site, so if it does not work on your environment and you are having a hard time troubleshooting it, just download the image from MS and it will work there for sure. I hope this helps you out, thanks for coming to my session!

Hi Craig, You are right on the money! In order for that action to work properly you'll need to point it at your own SSP.
