Using a Web Service as a Data Source in SharePoint Designer Bug

I can set up a web service as a datasource in Share Point Designer.  However, when I attempt to pull that information into a drop down list list form control it does not populate with information.  I've tried it several different ways, and paralleled it with a working model using a direct sql connection.  I believe this to be an error with SharePoint Designer.  Please comment with any related experiences.

I've been working on this a lot - and found someone's blog out there mentioning that you MUST set the webId (GUID of the site where your data comes from) parameter in the Data Source.  I tried this and all of a sudden it works for me.

Can you specify a little more into your scenario.  So the web service that you are using is a WSS 3.0 web service?  Coming from another wss site?

Has anyone found a resolution to this issue? When I try to set the text and value fields through SharePoint Designer the selection is blank and does not work.

I can use the same XML web service datasource as a Data View Web Part and it seems to work fine but cannot bind it to a data view dropdown list.

Any help would be much appreciated as this really should work.
